Guided Trips
Pembrokeshire Mainland
There is much to see on the Pembrokeshire mainland at all times of year. As well as creating custom trips, (from half days to multi-day trips) to meet your exact requirements, we put on regular single day trips throughout the year for groups between three and five people.
Our day trips have the main focus of showing you good birds, but also helping you improve your identification skills throughout the day. You should finish the day a better birder than when you started.
Mainland trips start and finish at a defined meeting point, usually Haverfordwest. The group size is minimum 3 maximum 4, but larger groups can be catered for. Please enquire for details.
For all trips the following kit is recommended:
- Binoculars (essential)
- Telescope and tripod (if you have one, but you’ll be able to use mine)
- Camera (if you have one)
- Clothing suitable for the forecasted weather
- Packed lunch and snacks
- Sturdy walking boots
Spring and early summer
At this time of year our focus is on the hard-to-find birds that breed in Pembrokeshire, many of them migrants arriving from their wintering grounds in Africa. We stop at 3 or 4 carefully chosen sites in central and north Pembrokeshire, taking in a mix of woodland, river and upland habitats.
Target species include as many of the following as we can find:
- Common Redstart
- Crossbill
- Cuckoo
- Dipper
- Goshawk
- Lesser Redpoll
- Pied Flycatcher
- Red Kite
- Spotted Flycatcher
- Tree Pipit
- Whinchat
- Willow Tit
- Wood Warbler
And, if time permits, the most southerly breeding pair of Black Guillemot in the UK.

Autumn
Autumn migration extends from July until November, so overlaps with our traditional summer and the start of winter! A day out at this time of year will focus on the outstanding Dale and Marloes peninsula, including sites such as Martin’s Haven, Marloes Mere, The Gann, St Ann’s Head and Dale Airfield. Where we go depends on recent sightings, weather and tides, to give us the best chance of seeing interesting birds.
The target species in autumn will vary depending on the date and recent sightings, but will include looking for waders, migrant passerines and everything in between.
Upcoming dates: to be confirmed – please enquire

Winter
You could argue winter begins when the first birds return from breeding grounds further north, which could be as early as late June! But for the purposes of our trips we are talking about November to early March when most of the true winter visitors are taking advantage of Pembrokeshire’s relatively mild climate and extensive estuaries, particularly the Cleddau estuary complex.
A day out at this time of year has the Cleddau Estuary as the focus, but will include a few nearby sites along the way to add to the variety. The main targets will be wildfowl, waders and gulls.
